Make Corsets

Do corsets actually make your waist smaller?
Or do they just give the appearance of it?
A plastic boned fashion corset or lingerie corset will make you look cute but not really do anything for your figure. A real steel boned tight lacing corset will actually make your waist smaller, over a long period of time, with slowly increased tightness and hours worn daily. It can be done safely and without hurting you at all, if you take your time and don't rush the process. You can reduce your waist by 4 inches in the first year with a proper custom made steel corset and a healthy diet. I'm in the process of waist training right now & keeping track of inches lost on my blog, http://minestighter.blogspot.com . I also review corsets & sellers of corsets.

Corsets and Crinolines $57 Corsets and Crinolines is a study of the changing shapes of women''s dress and how these were produced, how simple laced bodices became corsets of cane, whale-bone and steel, while padding at shoulders and hips gave way to the structures of farthingales, hoops and bustles. Added are contemporary tailors and dressmakers accounts, illustrations, index, a glossary of terms and materials, appendices on the repair and manufacture of corsets and crinolines. |

Chinstraps, Nose Moulds and Corsets: A Shopper's Guide to Feminine Bea $6.5 DIVDIVDIVFor centuries, the seeds sown by advertising to beguile women have fallen on fertile ground. The sell has been soft-to create a feeling of promise. Then, as now, it has been essential to make the product unforgettable, superior, one that outshines all the others-yet, somehow, within reach. Although, outwardly, it is beauty products and clothing that seem to give women confidence, there are other, less obvious (indeed, well-hidden) items that women have thought highly of over the years. This entertaining anthology of vintage advertising pitched at the British woman ranges widely across face and figure; tooth, hair, and nail; health and malaise; fashion and fad; fact and fantasy./DIV/DIV/DIV |

The 2007-2012 Outlook For Womens And Girls Corsets, Girdles, And Combi $609 This study covers the latent demand outlook for womens and girls corsets, girdles, and combinations made from purchased fabrics excluding surgical corsets across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of its prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-`-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for womens and girls corsets, girdles, and combinations made from purchased fabrics excluding surgical corsets. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. |

I need to sew them into the dress b/c it bunches in my middle (it's used - it was cheap - i need to make it my own w/ out spending a fortune)
I need to sew them into the inside of the dress -- because of all the beading, they won't be seen at all
-- i just need the support from the inside
I think you will probably want to go with plastic boning - spiral steel and metal boning would be much harder to retrofit in the manner that you are wanting. Besides, plastic is sooo much more comfortable. You don't need to get them through corset making - just go to your local fabric store and get the plastic ones. I used to make formals and this was what I used - the bodices typically would stand on their own if strategically placed.
You're going to need to sew some channels into your gown to hold the boning - for a retrofitting like this, I think bias tape may be enough. Sew 3 sides, insert the boning, and sew the top shut - easy peasy.... Round the edges of the plastic before you insert them so they don't stab you from inside the dress - this can be done with scissors.
